THE TREK is a western/horror that follows the story of a Dutch-Afrikaans family and their British travel companion as they make the perilous journey across the Kalahari desert in the mid 1800s. Assisted by a mysterious Khoen stranger, the group is preyed upon by the harsh desert, beset by hunger and desperation while being stalked by a terrifying, invisible adversary. Combining aspects of true-life history and Southern African folktale, THE TREK lays bare the horrific desperation of a life-ordeath survival situation, while the unforgiving desert backdrop acts as a threatening ticking clock. THE TREK is a character-driven, dread-inducing horror that explores the dark legacy of colonialism in an untapped western setting while being both thought-provoking and entertaining in equal measure. THE TREK was the 1st place winner from South Africa at the 2021 JETS programme hosted at EFM and was also shortlisted for the 2021 Berlinale Talents Project Market.
